About usOur historical tavern is located in Ferrara’s city centre, in a beautiful palace that dates back to the 13th century. You will be immersed in a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you will taste Ferrara’s local traditional cuisine made with local products.
I am Maria Cristina, and with the help of my two sons Luca and Giovanni, I carry on the legacy of my mother, Noemi, who first opened this tavern in 1958.
I personally prepare fresh-made pasta, rigorously made with rolling pin as tradition dictates, fillings, and Ferrara’s traditional desserts, supervising all the phases of preparation to the last detail. All our dishes are prepared daily to guarantee quality and freshness. I also make the “pasticcio di maccheroni ferrarese”. It is a complex and rich dish that dates back to the 17th century when it used to be made at the Estense court during Carnival.
He is our Front of House manager and AIS-certified sommelier. He successfully completed the Advanced Sommelier and Bar and Restaurant Management course at the International School of Italian Cuisine (ALMA) and is an ANAS-certified grappas expert.
He will advise you on the best wine, whether it be sweet or liquer, to match your order and enhance the flavor of your desserts. Finally, to finish your meal, why not ask him to make you try one of our grappa or distilled spirits?
These days, you will rarely see him around. After completing his hotelier degree at the International School of Italian Cuisine (ALMA), he is now enrolled in an advanced course of Italian cuisine and currently working in another restaurant to master his techniques. I am looking forward for his return so that the three of us can finally work together.
Ah and I almost forgot! If you happen to hear a loud voice coming from the kitchen, that is our chef, Lorenzo. Unfortunately, he never gets a sore throat, even in winter. He coordinates with our assistant chef Joy and our apprentices Axel and Michelangelo. With them are Catalina, Hanna and Natasha washing the dishes.
Finally, our Front of House staff helping Luca are: our smiling Dorotea and Marianna who can see everything that is going on; Simone, always precise and with a sparkling wit; Maria Luisa, at the back with me preparing the pasta and I take care of the bills at the end while Noemi looks upon us from above.
